Memorial services to celebrate the life of Alice M. Douglas, 85, a resident of Thomas Place, Bettendorf, formerly of Moline will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Halligan – McCabe – DeVries-Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. Honoring her wishes the rite of cremation has been accorded. Private family inurnment will be in Moline Memorial Cemetery. Alice died Friday, November 30, 2012 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
Alice Marie Zippmann was born October 16, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois a daughter of Henry and Alice (Kruse) Zippmann. She was united in marriage to Thomas M. Douglas, II, on February 24, 1951. He preceded her in death February 15, 1980. Alice was employed as a bookkeeper and truly enjoyed all her jobs and the many wonderful people she met over the years. She retired in 1998 from the South Park Tennis Club after 11 years of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "ARC/Ninth Street Place", a group home where Alice's granddaughter Stacey resides.
Those left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Stacey Douglas, Rock Island, Michael Douglas, Moline, Andrea Douglas, Rock Island, Thomas Douglas, IV., Austin, TX and Stacie (Dan) DeVries, Davenport; her great grandchildren, Samuel, Patrick, Jonathan and Isabel DeVries; her daughters-in-law, Pam Douglas, Geneseo and Denise Douglas, Moline; a sister, Marilyn Davidson, Chicago, IL, and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Haines, Moline, as well as many wonderful and caring nieces, nephews and special friends.
In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her sons Thomas and Michael in 2010, and her sister, Adele Westergren in 2004. May they rest in peace.
