Charles J. Vanek, 80, a resident of Davenport passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services in Davenport. Following Chuck's wishes private family services will be held and burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. The Halligan – McCabe – DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Charles Joseph Vanek was born March 23, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri a son of Charles Alois and Ludmila (Dostal) Vanek. He attended the former St. Ambrose Academy and he graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport.
Mr. Vanek was proud to have served our country. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954.
Chuck had been in sales for the furniture industry; following retirement he had worked for the Rockingham Road Hy-Vee.
He was a member of St. Alphonsus Church. Chuck had been an avid runner and participated in numerous Bix 7 road races; he was also a member of the Cornbelt Running Club.
Memorials can be made to a charity of your choice.
Survivors include sisters, Vivian Petersen, Belton, MO., Charlene (John) Miller, Davenport, and Marie (Doug) Williams, Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
