Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Judith A. "Judy" Lindner, 70, a resident of Davenport, will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 14th and Brown Streets, Bettendorf. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Sheffield, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport where the family invites you to join them for a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. There will be additional visitation Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Judy died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Judith Ann Driessens was born March 24, 1942 in Kewanee, Illinois, a daughter of Julius and Doris (DePauw) Driessens. Judy was united in marriage to Julius Henry "Jul" Lindner on September 1, 1984 in First Federated Church, Peoria, Illinois.
Judy worked as a legal secretary for 20 years while raising her family. In 1996, she earned a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Marycrest College at the age of 54. She put her education to work for Just Kids Day Care Center, Milan. During her career, she was also a tireless volunteer for Birthright in Davenport.
Judy was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. She had also spent many years facilitating prayer meetings for the National Organization Contemplative Outreach Ltd., Cursillo Prayer Group, Emmaus Prayer Group, Centering Prayer Support Group, and Christian Experience Weekend. Judy enjoyed reading, especially scripture, playing bridge, bike riding, walking, and traveling. In 2000, she and Jul traveled to the Vatican in Rome as volunteers for the Jubilee celebration.
Judy was devoted to her faith and her family. When she and Jul became grandparents, they started "Kuzin Kamp". The grandchildren stayed at their home for a week full of fun activities that Jul and Judy had planned for them including Our Lady of Lourdes VBS. This was not only a favorite time for Grandma and Grandpa, but the parents too!
In addition to her loving husband Jul, she is survived by her children, Bradley (Lori) Miller, Norwalk, IA, Jennifer (Joe) Guthrie, Lombard, IL, Andrea (George) Johnson, Norwalk, IA; her stepchildren, Bradley (Jackie) Lindner, Lawrence, KS, Andrew (Amanda) Lindner, Ketchikan, AK, Julie (Jeff) Darko, Mapleton, IL. Fourteen wonderful grandchildren, Collin and Camille Miller, Grace, Joey and Hannah Guthrie, Geordie, Gabe and Allison Johnson, Nicholas Guerrero and Allie Lindner, Becker Lindner, Ryan and Nathan Darko and Jenna Brown; a sister and brother-in-law, Anna Mae (Max) Johnson, Prophetstown, IL, and a brother-in-law, Gary Gerken, Columbus, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gerri Gerken. May they rest in peace.
Memorials may be made to Contemplative Outreach – Eastern Iowa Chapter or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
