Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia J. Johnston, 81, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097-18th Street, Bettendorf. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday (today) at the church. There will be additional visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mrs. Johnston died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf surrounded by her loving family. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Patricia Jean Epping was born on August 12, 1931 in Davenport, a daughter of Anthony J. and Clara (DeBettignies) Epping. She was a 1949 graduate of Immaculate Conception Academy. Patricia was united in marriage to Daniel C. Johnston on April 26, 1952 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Davenport. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2001. They shared over 49 years of marriage together.
Patricia was a loving homemaker, raising and supporting her five boys. She was a wonderful grandmother. Patricia was a very kind and caring person and always enjoyed helping others. She and Dan were big supporters of Catholic education, especially Assumption High School. She enjoyed her outings with her card club group, and also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Memorials may be made to Assumption High School or St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Patricia is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Annette Johnston, Bettendorf, Gary and Kristy Johnston, Cedar Rapids, Steven and Cheryl Johnston, Minneapolis, MN, David and Roxie Johnston, Bettendorf, Thomas and Joan Johnston, Waconia, MN; grandchildren: Daniel, Emily, David, Amy, Angela, Andrew, Abbey, Molly, Kevin, Grace, Maria, Cecilia, and Rose; great-granddaughter: MacKenna; and a sister, Rhea Epping, Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; her parents, and brothers: Jim Epping and Quinn Epping. May they rest in peace.
