Services and Mass of Resurrection for Virginia R. Vande Wiele, 89, of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 8:45 until 9:45 a.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. Mrs. Vande Wiele passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012.
Virginia Rita Vande Wiele was born May 21, 1923 in Davenport, the daughter of Joe and Mae (Hartman) Gasser.
She married Albert J. Vande Wiele on September 8, 1945 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Davenport. Albert preceded her in death on April 5, 2007.
Virginia was employed for 25 years at the Radiology Group, retiring in 1998.
Virginia was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, AARP, and Plus 60. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Past Presidents of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 26, Davenport, and the Davenport and Iowa State American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Auxiliary, holding various board and committee positions.
Her interests included helping Veterans, counted cross-stitch, shopping, and traveling, having been to all the states except one. Her foremost lifetime pursuit was a total dedication to her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be distributed on Virginia's behalf to her favorite charities.
Survivors include a son, Keith, daughter Jill Vande Wiele, and son, Tom, all of Davenport.
In addition to her parents and husband, a brother, Thomas Gasser preceded her in death.
