Carol E. Harkins, 79, a resident of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Her loving husband Howard and some dear friends were at her side. She passed away following a battle with pulmonary disease.
Celebration of Life Services for Carol will be held at a later date. Following Carol's wish cremation rites have been accorded. The Halligan - McCabe - DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Carol Ellen Peters was born June 16, 1932 in Davenport a daughter of Lewis and Helen (Allen) Peters. Carol graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy.
She was united in marriage to Howard Eugene Harkins in 1958 at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Together they enjoyed over 54 years of marriage.
Carol had worked for twenty-years at the former First Trust and Savings Bank, as an auditor. She also assisted with bookkeeping in Howard's business, Howard Music.
She and Howard have been long time members of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club and Lindsey Park Yacht Club.
Memorials can be made to Handicapped Development Center.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Howard; an uncle, Ewald Johnson, Long Grove, a brother-in-law, Max Harkins, Davenport, and numerous nieces and nephews.
